Introduction  #

Assessments provide a way to evaluate student knowledge and ability, as well as measure progress over the course of a program. It is necessary to have standardized assessment procedures in place to ensure consistency over time between instructors, schools, and districts or regions.

The assessment procedures for this curriculum uses holistic rubricsScoring rubricA guide that includes rating scales and descriptions of one or more criteria used to evaluate the performance of a skill. and ruleScoring rulesA guide used to evaluate performance of distance or time measured skills that includes descriptions of one or more criteria to determine whether to continue or halt the assessment process. sets to consistently and accurately evaluate students. Holistic rubrics consider all criteria together to produce a single score that represents a judgment of the student’s knowledge and/or ability. The rubrics for each skill describe levels of proficiency by listing gradients of key components and/or deficiencies and associates them with an overall score.

Scoring templates  #

The following tables describe overall levels of proficiency used to develop the scoring rubrics in this curriculum. There are four distinct assessment types, each with their own rubric or rule template: Motor Skill Scoring Rubric, Combined Skill Scoring Rubric, Timed/Distance Skill Scoring Rules, and Knowledge Objective Rubric.

Motor Skill Scoring Rubric Template  #

Score

Definition

NA

Student chose not to attempt

1

Was unable to perform a minimum of the gross motor patterns for a minimal time/distance

2

Performed a minimum of the gross motor patterns for a minimal time/distance

3

Performed some of the gross motor patterns for at least half of the time/distance required

4

Performed most/all of the gross motor patterns for the time/distance required

5*

Performed most/all of the gross motor patterns with an additional level of control for the time/distance required

6*

Performed all of the gross motor patterns with a refined level of control for the time/distance required

* Scores of 4 and 5 are used only for some Intermediate and Advanced Level skills.

Combined Skill Scoring Rubric Template  #

Score

Definition

NA

Student chose not to attempt

1

Was unable to perform a limited subset of the components of the combined skill

2

Performed a limited subset of the components of the combined skill, both correctly and for the time/distance required per each component completed

3

Performed all but one component of the combined skill correctly in the specified order for the times/distances required

4

Performed all components of the combined skill in the specified order for the times/distances required

Timed/Distance Skill Scoring Rules Template  #

Score

Definition

#

Time or distance the student performed the skill in seconds/yards

Stop

  • No longer performs the skill at a minimum level of proficiency
  • Performed the skill for the maximum time/distance required
Knowledge Objective Rubric Template  #
